6:24 pm - i name drop obscure bands and that makes me really cool.
Figurine: The Heartfelt. Put out on March Records

At first I thought - oh no! Not another electronic indie pop band! Except then I remembered that I can't get enough of the electronic indie pop. And its good. Some songs (#1 especially) are fun like Barcelona. Others are dreamy and sophisticated like Stars.

current mood: hungry

2:39 pm - CD Review of the Week
There may be more as the week wears on, since I got 5 CDs to review at the station the other day.

The Icicles: Pure Sugar EP. Drive In Records

Fun indie pop with female vocals. Not quite catchy or charming enough to be great, but all songs are worth a spin if you're into this kinda thing. Which I am.

Went to see Waking Life last night. It finally came to Montpelier, about 4 motnhs late! It was very beautiful to look at, amazing animation based on live action.

Quite cerebral and intellectual though. Talking about philosophies of life, meanings, etc etc. My poor little brain was lost. Anyone else seen it?

8:07 am - TV
In the tradition of Sue, I do an entry of TV shows. Last night I went over to Rachel's and we watched Survivor. We are loving this Survivor. There is so much love. Kathy from Vermont is definitly going to be in the top 4.

Theeeeeen, Jenn made us watch the final epidsode of the Bachelor, even though I freaked out and said I couldn't watch it because it just made me so mad. but somehow I got sucked in. For those of you who have never watched this show or don't know what it is about : basically this guy dates like 20 women and plays elminitation until he is down to two and then he picks one to propose to. It is offensive on so many levels. This is why I hate TV, hate America. That we watch these stupid evil television shows where a rich guy plays prince to desperate pathetic blonde women. Brings two hoes home to his family "which one do I marry?" Making a mockery of the sacred union of marriage! (ha!) Faux romance. Its painful to watch, this Amanda woman, 23 and wants to settle down, make babies, awkward silences between her and the man she wants to marry where is the love, where is the love? It enrages me that there are women - and men - across America watching this and this looks like a dream come true. They believe the load of lies and fake sentimental emotions coming out of the man's mouth. Ugh Ugh Ugh. I want to be on that show and play the game and in the last episode when he proposed to me I spit in his face and go on a tirade about all that is disturbing about this show and wake up the people who believe that it is real. Or the people who want it to be real.

current mood: irritated

11:05 am - two CD reviews
Thumbs Up:

Volumizer: Gaga for Gigi (Mint Records) (from Canada!)
Fun poppy garage rock chords and female vocals. Could use a little more bass, but that's just me. Its not my band. If it was, I'd have more bass. Most songs pretty good, esp #1

Thumbs Eeehhh:
Sightings: Sightings (Load Records)
The pink cover is so misleading! Their website calls this album "a bad ass hate-fest with subdermal bass, paper thin razor guitars, and Axis of Evil drumming." yeah, that sounds about right. There are probably swear words in there, but I couldn't really make out the vocals. I do like song #4.

8:35 am - violation
so i'm feeling pretty grossed out and violated by this comment i recieved morning in an old entry.

i suppose that's what happens when you don't protect all entries and mark them friends only. but still. i don't want to be the subject of trolling, of someone wanting to make me feel that/this way. all i did was say my nipples we hard.

what did you get out of that comment? enjoy the power of freaking out another person, of making them nervous for a minute? fuck off, anonymous poster. and i'm not marking this one friends only either, because then you fucking win.

current mood: uncomfortable

4:00 pm - tay's 2nd CD review of the day
Dutch Pop 2002:

A sampling of dutch pop. Slick, studio, overproduced crap pop that would play on 95 Triple X if these bands were marketed in the US. # 1 sounds like the Backstreet Boys. And they're dutch, so I bet they're even cuter than those Backstreet Boys! #2 sounds like a mix of Bon Jovi and the Scorpions. Don't bother with any of the songs on here. Oh yeah - they're all sung in English too. They'd be better if they weren't.

12:52 pm - CD Review of the Day
oh my god. the action album! NoVo records:

oh my god! we sound like a cheesy 80s hair metal band! but we're not! we're a cheesy band from chicago with a pianist named "Iguana!" Song #1 (Action) is worth an off air spin just for its stupidity.

current mood: amused

First and foremost, crazy birthday shout outs to the lovely venus flytrap. What day exactly was your bday? Sat or Sun? Or today? On Saturday I was walking to the mall and I suddenly thought of you and your birthday and worried that I had forgotten it. Now I am very proud of myself that I didn't. I am usually HORRIBLE with birthdays, too.

Bah - I will update more later. Busy annoying day.

12:57 pm - buds on the trees
it is lovely and warm out. thick breeze working havoc on my hair. its amazing how spring makes everything ok. then you get used to nice weather and beautiful days don't matter anymore. i would never want to live in a place without seasons. i don't enjoy the winter, but i find it necessary.

i just had the worst piece of pizza ever.

i am anxious to leave here, to drive to see kim. i am going alone and looking forward to the 3 hours alone in the car. hope i get some good talk radio, or learn cool things on NPR.

12:29 pm - today's CD review - short but sweet
Shark Attack Music -

A great little comp of some Boston bands. Poppy with just the right amount of drone thrown in. I feel like I'm listening Yo La Tengo.

10:28 am - fans of the real world, take note
I haven't been watching the new one. BUT....

guess who is coming to UVM to lecture?!

Yes, that's right. Everyone's favorite racist and everyone's favorite manipulative big boobed baby - Mike and Coral from last season! I am so there.

12:41 pm - tay's Cd review of the week.
so i figure i would start putting my review of CDs for the station in here. not that most of mu LJ friends necessarily listen to this type of music. but hey. whatever. each review fits on a small label, hence the fact that most of these are only like 50 words long. oh yeah - i was voted non student executive board member the other day. whoo hoo!

She Mob: Turn to Chocolate (Spinster Playtime Records):

This band is better than their name would have you believe. Female pop/rock that;s better when its jangly and singsongy than when they try to ROCK. Try "Viagra", "Tear Me Down," "So Sleepy," and "I am You." "Lite Roc" is a hilarious ode to lite rock. "Herbal Remedizer" is an insult to my ears.

9:34 am - Model Student
i found out something interesting.

the subject of Pre-School somehow came up at easter dinner. Apparently the pre-school I went to was mostly for developmentally disabled kids. I was there to be their role model. Huh?
